Using an SPF has to be one of the most important beauty tips ever. Cosmetically it is the best skin ageing preventative there can be, and of course most importantly taking care of your health.
Dr. Preema the medical director of Dr Preema London says:
The most important skin-care product available to prevent wrinkles is sunscreen. Both UVA and UVB rays cause wrinkles by breaking down collagen, creating free radicals and inhibiting the natural repair system of the skin. ‘If you only spend on one skincare product, let it be a good SPF’
A good SPF indeed and the range is vast. However I know from personal experience what seems to be forgotten is the need to make sure the face is also covered. There are some kick ass SPF moisturisers specifically designed to look after the delicate skin on our face.
Eucerin Sun Gel-Cream is a very high protective face cream. With 50+ SPF protecting against UVA and UVB rays for long lasting full protection. What I find most perfect about this product is the oil control. Most sun creams are very thick and oily and this can play havoc on my completion, no one wants a shiny face. This quick drying anti-shine moisturiser has the lot! It’s glides over the skin, making it smooth with a matt finish. Also great to wear under make up. Will be the first thing in my suitcase this summer.
Even if you decide to go for a lower SPF on your body you should always go for the highest possible protection on your face. ‘The SPF in your foundation isn’t enough to protect you in the sun so always use SPF50 sunscreen on your face,’ says Dr Preema.
Nivea Sun UV Face Moisture Mousse. I have never tried a moisture mousse before, but I’m liking it! This fluffy creamy moisturiser covers the skin, a little going a very long way. With SPF 50+ this is an essential beach companion, as well as protection from premature ageing and sunburn it deeply nourishes the skin making it feel velvety. Unlike other average sun cream it leaves no white residue, so no need for awkward pool side moments.
When it comes to creams, gels or mousses Dr Preema points out that ‘all formulas will give you the same amount of protection. So if it says SPF15 on the bottle that’s what the protection will be. It’s really down to individual preference, so look what the product does rather than what it is and ensure what you choose has a high SPF and UVA level of protection’
Palmers Cocoa Butter Skin Perfecting Moisturising Day Cream. A perfect everyday moisturiser which sits wonderfully under makeup. Containing SPF 15 not only protecting from suns rays but hydrates with Aloe and Shea Butter, prevents anti ageing with Vitamin E and doesn’t clog the pore. I love the recognisable Cocoa Butter smell, and my skin feeling silky smooth.
As recommended by Dr Preema, Cloudy days are no excuse not to wear sun protection as the level of UV radiation is not affected by temperature and UV rays can penetrate through thin cloud. In fact patchy clouds can intensify UV levels because radiation is reflected off the clouds edge and then focuses on the ground.
Sunscreen ingredients can be divided into physical compounds that block radiation or non-physical compounds that absorb radiation. Look for scientifically advanced physical sunscreens like Titanium Dioxide and micronized Zinc Oxide, they provide broad-spectrum sun protection and are used in iS Clinical products
explains Dr Preema.
Get out and enjoy the summer knowing you’ll be protected with these products.
