Calling all fellow cupcake lovers! Did you know there is a whole week dedicated to our favourite past time? The 18-24 September is the tastiest week in the calendar: National Cupcake Week, so bring on the butter cream and get ready to celebrate. You have just over a week to round up the squad and hit our favourite cupcake haunts hard.
London is a city of many pleasures, cuisines and most importantly cupcakes! When it comes to these frosted bakes of dreams, there are some serious baking skills to behold in our capital. Here’s just some of our favourite haunts for the sweetest sugar rush.
Sugar junkies go here for adventurous Afternoon Tea, literally. BB Bakery has offers a unique Afternoon Tea Bus Tour experience so you can have your cake and eat it, all whilst soaking up the scenes of lovely London. Alternatively, just simply visit the bakery in Covent Garden if you prefer your icing minus the wheels. Weekends are incredibly busy, book for Afternoon Tea in advance or try your luck with a drop in when you know there will be less footfall in busy Covent Garden.
Bea’s has a presence in a few London hot spots such as Farringdon, St Paul’s and Marylebone. Whereas the latter provide great surroundings for Afternoon Tea the Farringdon cafe is a pop in takeaway service. But what it is lacking in seating it makes up for in flavour. Plus you can take your cupcake back to your desk as a post lunch treat and capture some cakestagram snaps to share the joy.
Crumbs & Doilies
Another up and coming, growing cupcake company, we visited the shop in Kingly Court just off Carnaby Street and treated ourselves to this gorgeous Cinnamon Toast number. The packaging is as cute as the brand name promises and the unusual flavour was a lovely tasty surprise unlike any other I had tried before. If you are looking to tantalise your taste buds with something new and surprising this is the store for you.
Lola’s Cupcakes are easy to find, you can stumble across pop ups in many major London tube stations as well as in Topshop and Selfridges on Oxford Street when you want to top off a shopping trip with a sweet treat. The huge array of classics and variations possible make Lola’s Cupcakes great gifts too. The free from range is worth a shout out as well – including vegan options.
Let’s face it, this only scratches the surface of London’s cupcake action and there’s many more to visit on my list. But hey – that just means more sweet tales for next year!
