Fab Five Primers

In my early years I never thought a primer was an important part of my makeup routine – but back then I also used to wear lilac eye shadow by the trowel full! Now at my more sensible age the benefits of a primer is huge and I wear it almost every day under my makeup. For a novice a primer basically gives an even base for the makeup to be put onto and also helps it to stay longer on the skin. There are thousands out there, I have my fab five for you.

Illamasqua Hydra Veil

I have come to really love Illamasqua products, I think they are really good quality. The primer was one of my first buys from them. The texture in the tube is almost jelly like, in a clear lightweight formula. You really don’t need much to create a base, it really is lightweight so you bearly notice its there – that’s a good thing – but still enough to even out the texture of my skin ready for foundation.

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow

Of course Charlottle Tilbury is up once more, and we have actually featured this primer in one of our reviews, it wouldn’t be right however not to have it in my top five, as it is. This formula is a little thicker however what I love about Wonderglow is its light reflecting pigments which gives a lovely subtle glow, great for a base for my night out make up.

GOSH Velvet Touch Foundation Primer

Gosh is another recent discovery of mine whilst wandering around Superdrug one day. So far what I am seeing I am loving. So they have a few primers, I have chosen the Velvet Touch, the main reason, its anti-wrinkle – every little helps! Its contains Matrixyl 3000 which claims to boost the collagen fibres that improved the elasticity of the skin. This does help my foundation become smoother, preventing dryness and clogging.

e.l.f. have a great range of products and one of the best things about them is they are kind on the purse! There a few primers on offer, I have gone for the Illuminating Face Primer. Mainly because I love my skin to have a dewy youthful tone. Like the Charlotte Tilbury it has a golden colour for luminescence. It is great under a foundation or even to use on its own for a no make up look.

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

The super trendy Smashbox have the Photo Finish Primer, and with a title like that I had to try. This is a transparent gel which feels light and clean on the skin. It is said to minimise pore, blur imperfections and smooth the skin. I love it because I noticed a real difference when I applied my foundation as it gave me a more flawless look. As its slightly pricier I tend to use this for more special occasions rather than everyday.

  1. I got a luxe size sample of the Illamasqua primer in a beauty box and I agree with you, it really is a good primer as well as GOSH (haven’t tried the others from your list).
